Composite Bonding in Chesterfield
Cosmetic Dentistry
Composite bonding is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments we offer at Staveley Dental Care — and it is easy to see why. Using tooth-coloured composite resin, our dentists can reshape, repair and revitalise your smile in a single appointment, with no drilling and no anaesthetic required in most cases. The results speak for themselves.
Real composite bonding results from our Chesterfield practice
The photographs below show real before and after results from patients treated at Staveley Dental Care. All photos are shared with full patient consent. Every case is individual and results will vary — during your consultation we will give you an honest, realistic assessment of what composite bonding can achieve for your smile.

Case 1: Full smile composite bonding — correcting discolouration, uneven edges and shape across multiple teeth in a single appointment.

Case 2: Composite bonding to close gaps, correct proportions and create a brighter, more even smile.
These results were achieved without any preparation of the natural teeth — completely reversible, completed in one visit.
What is composite bonding?
Composite bonding uses a tooth-coloured resin material that is applied directly to the surface of your teeth and sculpted by hand into the desired shape. The material is hardened with a curing light, then polished to a smooth, natural finish that blends seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.
Unlike porcelain veneers, composite bonding requires little or no preparation of the natural tooth surface in most cases — making it a completely reversible treatment. There is usually no need for injections or drilling, and the entire treatment can be completed in a single appointment.
Composite bonding is suitable for a wide range of cosmetic concerns and is one of the most versatile treatments available in modern cosmetic dentistry.
What can composite bonding correct?
Composite bonding can be used to improve a wide range of cosmetic concerns when the teeth and gums are otherwise healthy.
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Uneven or irregular tooth shapes
- Teeth that appear too short or too small
- Mild discolouration that does not respond to whitening
- Worn edges from grinding or acid erosion
- Minor crowding or overlapping where orthodontics is not preferred
- Asymmetry between teeth
Composite bonding works best on natural tooth enamel. It does not change the colour of existing crowns, veneers or white fillings. If you are considering tooth whitening alongside composite bonding, we recommend completing your whitening course first — this way the composite can be matched to your new, brighter shade.
Composite bonding vs porcelain veneers — which is right for you?
Both treatments can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile, but they suit different situations and budgets.
Composite bonding is completed in a single appointment, requires no preparation of the tooth in most cases, and is completely reversible. It is a more affordable option and ideal for patients looking for a significant improvement without committing to a permanent restoration. Composite does require more regular maintenance than porcelain and may need polishing or minor repairs over time.
Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory and require two appointments. They are more durable, highly resistant to staining, and typically last longer than composite — usually ten to fifteen years or more. They do require a small amount of preparation of the tooth surface and are considered a permanent restoration.
During your consultation we will discuss both options honestly and help you decide which is the most suitable choice for your smile, your lifestyle and your budget.
How composite bonding works at Staveley Dental Care
- Smile consultation — We discuss what you like and dislike about your smile, assess your teeth and gums, and explain what composite bonding can realistically achieve for your case. We take photographs and shade records so you can see the planned improvement before treatment begins.
- Shade selection — We select the composite shade that most closely matches your natural teeth — or a slightly brighter shade if you are also completing a whitening course. Getting the shade right is one of the most important steps in achieving a natural result.
- Composite application — The composite resin is applied to each tooth and carefully sculpted by hand into the desired shape. Each layer is hardened with a curing light before the next is applied. This is a skilled, artistic process — the quality of the result depends significantly on the experience of the clinician.
- Shaping and polishing — Once the composite is in place, the teeth are carefully shaped, refined and polished to a smooth, natural finish. We check the bite and make any fine adjustments needed.
- Review — We arrange a review appointment to check everything has settled well and answer any questions about maintaining your result.
How long does composite bonding last?
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, composite bonding typically lasts five to seven years before any maintenance or replacement is needed. The longevity of your bonding depends on a number of factors including your diet, oral habits, and how well the teeth are looked after.
Composite is more susceptible to staining than porcelain, so we advise minimising consumption of heavily staining food and drink — particularly tea, coffee, red wine and curry — especially in the first 48 hours after treatment when the composite is most susceptible.
We recommend attending regular hygiene appointments to keep your bonding looking its best. Minor chips or surface wear can usually be repaired quickly and affordably at a maintenance appointment.
How much does composite bonding cost in Chesterfield?
The cost of composite bonding depends on the number of teeth being treated and the complexity of the case. We provide a full cost estimate during your consultation before any treatment begins — there are no hidden costs or surprises.
Finance options are available to spread the cost of your treatment. Visit our finance page for more information.
Composite bonding is a private treatment and is not available on the NHS.
Common questions about composite bonding in Chesterfield
Does composite bonding hurt?
In most cases composite bonding is completely painless and requires no anaesthetic. The composite is applied directly to the surface of the tooth without any drilling or preparation in the majority of cases. Some patients with sensitive teeth may experience mild sensitivity during treatment, which settles quickly.
How many teeth can be treated in one appointment?
This depends on the extent of treatment planned. A single tooth can be bonded in as little as 30 to 45 minutes. A full smile makeover involving multiple teeth may take two to four hours. We discuss the expected appointment length during your consultation so you can plan accordingly.
Can composite bonding be whitened?
Composite resin does not respond to whitening agents. If you want to whiten your teeth, we strongly recommend completing a whitening course before having composite bonding placed — the composite can then be matched to your new, brighter shade.
Is composite bonding reversible?
In most cases yes — because little or no preparation of the natural tooth is required, composite bonding can be removed without permanently altering the underlying tooth. This is one of the key advantages of composite over porcelain veneers.
Will my bonding look natural?
Natural-looking results are always our priority. Composite is colour-matched to your surrounding teeth and polished to a finish that closely mimics natural enamel. In most cases the bonding is indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
What should I avoid after composite bonding?
In the first 48 hours we recommend avoiding heavily staining food and drink such as tea, coffee, red wine and curry. We also advise against biting directly into very hard foods such as crusty bread, hard sweets or ice. Habits such as nail biting or chewing pens can damage composite over time and should be avoided.
Can composite bonding fix a gap between my front teeth?
Yes — closing a gap between the front teeth (known as a diastema) is one of the most common uses of composite bonding and one of the most satisfying results. It can usually be completed in a single short appointment.
Do I need a consultation before treatment?
Yes — we always carry out a full consultation before any cosmetic treatment. This allows us to assess your teeth and gums, discuss your goals, plan the treatment, and give you a clear cost estimate. We never begin treatment without your full understanding and agreement.
